Your Donation Helps Genesis Provide Assistance Dogs in Florida
If you’ve ever experienced the love and companionship of a furry, four-legged friend you are no doubt more than aware of the expenses associated with being a good pet parent. The cost of providing food, shelter and appropriate veterinary care for your pet can come with a hefty price tag. If your dog isn’t a rescue, then odds are you also paid to purchase your pet. Now imagine adding personalized daily training sessions into your budget. The fees for training can be staggering. At Genesis Assistance Dogs, Inc. we want you to know how your donation helps us to fulfill the dreams of those in need of the services provided by skilled assistance dogs in Florida.
It is important to recognize that while service dogs are considered the equivalent of medical equipment, most insurance companies don’t agree. The majority of health insurance companies offer no coverage for the purchase, training, or care of an assistance dog. Therefore, all associated costs fall squarely on the shoulders of the physically challenged individual or their family. From the selection and purchase of a puppy suitable for training as an assistance dog to the end of approximately 3 years of training, the cost of providing highly skilled assistance dogs in Florida to each one of our clients falls in the $26,000 to $30,000.00 range. All of our Genesis clients receive their assistance dogs at absolutely no charge. There are no mandatory fund-raising requirements, no percentage of fees to be repaid as with other organizations.
As a small organization, Genesis Assistance Dogs, Inc. prides itself on providing one-on-one training to all of our clients and that extends post-placement. Our trainer is available to provide continual support and fine tuning of skills specific to each client for the life of the partnership. This training and subsequent training is provided by Genesis to the client at no cost. In addition to training, all equipment needed to facilitate the needs of our clients is included with the placement of a Genesis Assistance Dog. From identification vests, to mobility assistance harnesses (which can run in excess of $600.00), to training manuals, there are absolutely no fees passed onto our clients.
