Meet Brooke and Motive
Meet the newest client and member of the Genesis family, 19 year old BROOKE! On Labor Day 2012, Brooke was hanging out with some friends on a dock just kidding around. Being an avid water-person, she launched a dive into the water. What she didn’t realize is that the turbid water was only knee deep. Brooke struck bottom, fractured her neck and immediately suffered paralysis. She underwent emergency surgery and has been progressing slowly with limited restoration of sensation and movement in her lower extremities since then.
2 1/2 year old Genesis Assistance Dog-in-training MOTIVE has been paired with Brooke to become her assistance dog. When Motive and Brooke met, there was an immediate bond between the two. Motive will be working hard for the next four to six months perfecting his skills to help Brooke retrieve items, open doors and most importantly, place her feet onto her wheelchair foot rests. In addition to performing tasks for Brooke, Motive will become her constant companion giving her unconditional love and big, warm, furry hugs when she needs them. Team Brooke and Motive will train together once a week to strengthen their already immediate bond and will then undergo an intensive two week training program prior to Motive being placed with Brooke for good.
We will keep you updated on the progress of Brooke and Motive, but we are very excited to announce this newest team. They are going to be awesome together!
